Opportunity isn’t defined by how long one has been in the job, but by the readiness to learn, embrace challenges and create value.

For Thiep Tran, IT Technician at Niteco, two years with the company have deepened his expertise and confidence in resolving internal IT issues, ensuring every colleague has the best conditions to do their work.

Receiving the Rising Star award is a memorable milestone. But for Thiep, it isn’t a finish line. It’s the motivation to keep learning, take on more responsibility, and become a more dependable IT Technician with each passing day.

Here’s Thiep’s reflection on two years of growth.

During two years at Niteco, where do you feel you’ve grown the most?

Looking back, I think I’ve become much more proactive and confident.

When I first started, I spent a lot of time getting to know the systems, devices and support processes here. When a new issue came up, it took me time to work out where to begin, what the solution might be and who to talk to.

Over time, I’ve not only become more skilled at the work, but my approach to problems has changed. I can handle a wide range of situations more calmly. Instead of simply looking for the quickest way to get things running again, I pay more attention to the root cause to avoid similar situations in the future.

Building up experience, both technical and soft skills, has helped me be more productive. I learned to prioritise tasks better and resolve issues with confidence without needing much support.

How has working at Niteco changed the way you see your profession?

I used to think Internal IT's scope was mostly about fixing computers, software and devices. Since working at Niteco, I realised the role of an IT Technician is much broader. It’s about keeping systems stable and making sure people’s work isn’t interrupted. That means checking in regularly, supporting and resolving issues promptly whenever they come up.

My perspective on the job has shifted considerably in a good way. I understand that not every contribution comes from a big project or a standout achievement. Sometimes, helping things run smoothly every single day creates value for the whole team.

From the incidents you’ve handled, what have you learned is most important in being an IT Technician?

There was one time a technical incident led to a temporary shutdown. Because it affected so many people, I had to find the cause while keeping everyone updated.

The hardest part was the beginning, when we couldn’t yet pin down what was wrong. I worked through the possibilities one by one and checked in with the people involved. The first goal was to get everyone back to work as soon as possible. Only then did I dig further into the root cause to stop it happening again.

I believe people don’t just need a technical solution. They need the reassurance that their problem is being handled responsibly. A good IT Technician doesn’t only know how to fix things. They should stay calm under pressure, know what to prioritise, and communicate clearly.

What does the Rising Star title mean to you?

I felt really happy and surprised to receive Rising Star, especially as I was still learning and finding my feet at Niteco.

For me, the award isn’t only recognition of my efforts. It’s also an appreciation of the quiet contributions of our internal support teams. Every role has its own part to play, and I’m glad to contribute in a small way so that my colleagues can get on with their work with peace of mind.

The award has given me extra motivation to keep going. It’s also a reminder that this isn’t an ending goal but a chance to look back at the journey and keep setting new goals for myself.

What at Niteco turned opportunities into a step forward in your development?

Everyone can be given opportunities. What matters is making the most of those opportunities: being willing to learn, taking initiative, and stepping out of my comfort zone.

Niteco has offered me an environment to thrive and grow from experience. When I feel confident enough to handle something I once needed guidance on, or when colleagues come to me because they trust my capabilities, that's the biggest acknowledgment of my professional growth.

Opportunity is where it starts. Progress is built through the effort I put in each day to deserve that trust.
